Has the new code of ethics for physiotherapists incorporated bioethical trends?

Abstract

Advances in health technology incorporate bioethical discussions in texts that address professional care. Would the new code of ethics for physiotherapists have incorporated such discussions? Given the issue, we aimed to
verify the ratio of deontological and bioethical approaches in the new code of ethics when compared to the old one, investigating relationships between professional and client autonomies in healthcare. Content analysis
methods were applied to written documents in order to verify in what proportion deontological and bioethical approaches are present in the new code. The bioethical approaches compose the large part of the content in this
new code (53%) specially related to the justice category which represents 21,9% of the total textual units found. Changes in the new document reveal bioethical influences in the conception of the new code, which still did not
modify the relationship between professional and client autonomies, revealing the need for further discussions.

Emerson Fachin-Martins, Universidade de Brasília

Graduado Bacharel em Fisioterapia pela UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DE SÃO CARLOS (UFSCar) desde 1998. Titulou-se Mestre e Doutor em Psicologia (Neurociências e Comportamento) nos anos de 2001 e 2007, respectivemente, pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Psicologia na Área de Concentração de Neurociências e Comportamento da UNIVERSIDADE DE SÃO PAULO (USP). É Professor Adjunto no Curso de Fisioterapia da FACULDADE DE CEILÂNDIA (FCE) da UNIVERSIDADE DE BRASÍLIA (UnB) e Professor Permanente no PROGRAMA DE PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO EM CIÊNCIAS E TECNOLOGIAS EM SAÚDE (PPGCTS) e no PROGRAMA DE PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO EM CIÊNCIAS DA REABILITAÇÃO (PPGCR), ambos da FCE/UnB. Atua como coordenador do NÚCLEO DE TECNOLOGIA ASSISTIVA, ACESSIBILIDADE E INOVAÇÃO - NTAAI (Antigo Grupo de Pesquisa FUNCIONALIDADE E SAÚDE) desenvolvendo projetos nas linhas de pesquisa: (1) órteses, próteses e a otimização da interface corpo e máquina; (2) adequação postural e auxílio à mobilidade; (3) avaliação de tecnologias em saúde pela percepção do usuário; (4) auxílio à pessoa com deficiência sensorial e (5) treinamento, reabilitação e auxílio para a vida diária. Desenvolve o projeto de extensão de ação contínua: Viver sem limites em um corpo que interage com tecnologias. Realizou estudos avançados em nível de estágio pós-doutoral de 2013 a 2015 com Bolsa CAPES - BEX como pesquisador convidado no projeto DEMAR - DEAMBULATION ET MOUVEMENT ARTIFICIEL no LIRMM - LABORATOIRE D'INFORMATIQUE, ROBOTIQUE E MICROÉLECTRONIQUE DE MONTPELLIER que está vinculado ao Centre de Recherche INRIA Sophia Antipolis Méditeranée e a UNIVERSITÉ DE MONTPELLIER 2. É Bolsista Produtividade CNPq em Desenvolvimento Tecnológico e Extensão Inovadora - DT Nível 2.
